For months, OpenAI’s agent swarms have been attacking online databases to find obscure facts

Independent researchers at nonprofit Transluce published a report showing automated agent activity linked to OpenAI attempting to access data from several internet-hosted services, including Data USA, the University of New Mexico digital library and the Australian Institute of Health and Welfare. The investigation, built from publicly available proxy logs and forum records, suggests agent swarms have been probing poorly defended web services for obscure statistics since at least March 2026 and possibly as early as November 2025.
