Apple unveiled a new conversation-summarizing feature for its latest watches at the Surprise and Shine event, rolling out Siri Recap to the Apple Watch Series 12 and Ultra 4. The tool listens to surrounding audio and produces high-level notes — including an automatically generated title, a summary, and key points — which users can then view in the Siri app.
Users will be able to control how Siri Recap operates: the company says the feature can be kept active continuously, scheduled for specific times, or switched off entirely. Apple describes the summaries as products of its Apple Intelligence system rather than raw audio captures.
The notetaker is part of a larger set of audio-based features for the Watch announced at the event. Apple added Shazam-based song recognition that identifies music instantly, which brings the Watch closer to the functionality of Google ssistant's Now Playing. The Watch can also detect loud noises such as sirens, alarms, doorbells or a baby crying and alert the wearer. A new Live Rewind capability lets users replay the previous 15 seconds of a conversation by double-pressing the Digital Crown.
Apple emphasized several privacy-related design choices: it says the features do not retain recordings, raw audio is not accessible, Siri Recap does not identify individual speakers, and Live Rewind recaps are end-to-end encrypted. Still, the company acknowledged that summaries could include sensitive details, and the always-listening option may raise privacy questions for some users. Siri Recap functions resemble those offered by third-party notetakers such as Granola and Circleback, which already provide Apple Watch apps with similar capabilities.
