Bitcoin Starts the Week Flat, But Chainlink Is Flying—Here's Why
Chainlink's LINK token surged to an eight-month high after the payment infrastructure company announced a partnership with Bottomline, a major SWIFT services provider, to connect over 600 banks to blockchain-based settlement systems. The move highlighted growing institutional adoption of blockchain technology even as Bitcoin remained volatile below $80,000.

Why It Matters
This partnership represents a significant step toward mainstream financial infrastructure adoption of blockchain technology, as one of the world's largest payment processors integrates decentralized networks into its existing operations serving hundreds of banks and thousands of institutions globally.
Key Facts
- LINK price peak: $13.64 on September 7, highest since January 18
- Bottomline's annual payment volume: $16 trillion processed annually
- Banks connected via Bottomline: 600-plus bank customers
- LINK 24-hour gain: 6.8% increase
- LINK 30-day performance: Up 57% in the last 30 days
Chainlink's native token LINK reached its highest valuation in nearly eight months following the announcement of a major partnership with Bottomline Technologies, one of the world's top three SWIFT services providers. The deal will enable Bottomline's extensive network of banking clients to access blockchain settlement capabilities through Chainlink's infrastructure, marking a notable validation of the technology from a traditionally conservative financial sector player.
The integration leverages two existing Chainlink products to facilitate seamless adoption. Chainlink's Cross-Chain Interoperability Protocol manages the transfer of tokenized assets across more than 60 different blockchains, while the Chainlink Runtime Environment orchestrates payment workflows and handles transaction routing. Critically, the solution maintains compatibility with existing banking standards, allowing institutions to continue using ISO 20022 messaging protocols rather than requiring a complete overhaul of their systems.
Bottomline's reach extends far beyond the 600-plus direct bank customers mentioned in the partnership announcement, serving approximately 1,200 financial institutions and 10,000 businesses worldwide. This expansive network creates potential for widespread blockchain adoption across the global financial system without forcing institutions to abandon established operational practices.
The Chainlink announcement arrives amid broader evidence of institutional embracing of blockchain technology. SWIFT itself conducted interoperability experiments with Chainlink in 2023 involving major banks including Citi and BNY Mellon. Additionally, financial services firm Standard Chartered recently projected a $200 price target for LINK by 2030, while retail brokerage Charles Schwab added Chainlink to its cryptocurrency trading platform alongside Solana and Avalanche.
The combination of these developments appears to have driven LINK's outperformance relative to other major cryptocurrencies, with the token gaining 57 percent over the preceding 30 days as Bitcoin struggled to maintain momentum above the $80,000 level.
