Bose’s first wired earbuds in 11 years add noise canceling

Bose has released a new pair of wired earbuds, marking its first tethered offering since it stopped selling wired options in 2015. Branded simply as the Bose Noise Cancelling Wired Earbuds, the product removes the need for charging by delivering active noise cancellation through a wired connection. Bose is taking advantage of advances in earbud audio and ANC since its last wired model.

The earbuds use two microphones on each earpiece paired with Bose's QuietControl technology to provide multiple listening modes. Users can cycle between Quiet Mode, which reduces environmental sounds, Aware Mode, which increases ambient sound for situational awareness, or switch ANC off entirely via a button on the inline remote. An additional microphone on that remote is dedicated to phone calls and is designed to pick up voice without being held near the mouth.

Connectivity is handled through a 4.2-foot cable terminating in USB-C rather than a traditional headphone jack, enabling connection to modern smartphones and laptops and supporting lossless audio with low latency. The earbuds carry an IPX4 rating for protection against sweat, rain, and splashes, but are not intended for full submersion.

Each pair ships with a zippered carrying case, three sizes of silicone eartips, and two sizes of stability wings to help secure the fit during activity. Bose lists the earbuds for preorder at $99 on its website, offering three color choices: black, white smoke, and a limited-edition dewdrop mint. The company’s press release and online store show slightly different expected ship dates in mid-October.
