Bose’s next open earbuds have more bass, more volume, and more battery life
Bose introduced second-generation Ultra Open Earbuds and a new Sport Open Earbuds model, both clip-on designs that direct audio into the ear while leaving ambient sound audible. The Ultra Open Earbuds (2nd Gen) add a redesigned look, louder output with deeper bass, a Cinema Mode, and longer battery life, while the Sport Open Earbuds prioritize a more secure fit and workout-friendly features at a lower price.

Why It Matters
Open-ear earbuds are a growing category for users who want situational awareness while listening, and Bose's updates aim to improve sound output, fit, and battery life—features that influence buyers choosing between open and in-ear designs. The product refresh and a lower-cost sport variant expand Bose's options across casual and active use cases.

Bose has unveiled updated hardware in its open-ear earbuds lineup with the Ultra Open Earbuds (2nd Gen) and a new, lower-priced Sport Open Earbuds. Both models retain the clip-on form factor that routes sound inward toward the ear canal while allowing outside noise to remain audible, a design choice Bose says avoids active noise cancellation.
The Ultra Open Earbuds (2nd Gen) receive a subtle styling refresh, including a beveled finish on the metal cap, and a new driver that Bose says delivers higher volume with automatic adjustments and enhanced bass. The 2nd Gen also introduces a Cinema Mode using Bose’s TrueSpatial technology to create a wider soundstage while keeping dialogue centered. Battery life for the earbuds themselves is rated up to nine hours, improved from seven hours on the prior model, and the redesigned charging case adds 19.5 hours of additional playback time and can stand upright for wireless charging.
The Bose Sport Open Earbuds adopt the same clip-on audio approach but are tuned for active use with a thinner cuff finished in soft silicone for increased grip. Bose claims the Sport version will remain secure during vigorous movement such as running or head shakes, and includes automatic volume adjustments that react to ambient noise. Each Sport bud also has a textured customizable shortcut button on the battery barrel to make controls easier to locate during workouts. Battery life for the Sport Open Earbuds is rated up to seven hours on the buds plus 22 hours from the wireless charging case.
Both models will be available to preorder on September 19 and go on sale October 1. The Ultra Open Earbuds (2nd Gen) are priced at $299 and come in black, white smoke, cherry chocolate, olive green, and sky pink. The Sport Open Earbuds cost $199 and will be offered in black, white smoke, and eucalyptus green.
