Claude comes for Gemini with its own take on Docs and Slides

Why It Matters

The update brings built-in document and presentation workflows to Claude and makes its productivity features available from any chat, narrowing the integration gap with Google’s Gemini-powered Docs, Sheets, and Slides. That could reduce the need for users to switch between Claude and other productivity apps.

Key Facts

  • New features: Claude Docs and Claude Slides launched in beta
  • How they work: Create documents and presentations from any Claude chat, then export, edit, and share them
  • Collaboration: Docs start private but can be shared with editors for real-time collaboration; collaborators and Claude can leave comments
  • Interface consolidation: Anthropic is merging regular chats and Cowork into a single 'one Claude' interface
  • Design and artifacts: Artifacts and Claude Design capabilities will be accessible through the new single interface

Anthropic has introduced two new tools for its Claude AI: Docs and Slides. Both tools let users generate documents and presentation decks directly within Claude conversations, and those outputs can be exported, manually edited, or further revised by asking Claude to make changes. The features are being released in beta and join Claude Design under the platform's productivity toolset.

Like established cloud editors, Claude Docs begin as private files that can be shared with other editors for simultaneous work. Shared documents support comments from collaborators as well as Claude, and Anthropic says items produced with Claude Design, Slides, or Docs are reachable via a single shareable link that can be opened on mobile devices.

Alongside the new editors, Anthropic is simplifying the chat experience by combining regular chats and Cowork into one unified Claude interface. The company says this change makes Cowork and Design capabilities available from any conversation, leveraging the chat’s existing context, skills, and connectors. Artifacts and Claude Design tools will also be surfaced in the consolidated interface.

The “one Claude” update will roll out to Pro and Max users on web, desktop, and mobile over the next few weeks, with Team and Free users gaining access later; Anthropic says there is nothing users need to switch on to receive the update. The addition of Docs and Slides narrows a functional gap with Google, which earlier this year expanded Gemini’s role across Google Docs, Sheets, and Slides — including features like an embedded Gemini chat window and the ability to generate and edit entire documents and slides — giving Claude users fewer reasons to leave a chat for separate productivity apps.
