Flai, a startup that builds AI-powered customer relationship tools for car dealerships, says its software now schedules roughly 50,000 appointments each month across sales and service. The company has expanded from a three-person seed-stage team into an organization of about 40 employees while signing on more than 10 of the country’s top 50 dealer groups, according to CEO Ari Polakof.
Polakof told TechCrunch the business recorded a 20-fold increase in revenue over the last year. Flai’s platform handles inbound calls, outbound engagement, multilingual conversations, follow-ups and leadership alerts — tasks the company says go beyond simple call answering to a fuller dealer-specific CRM experience. Co-founder Juan Alzugaray noted deployments that handle customers switching between Spanish and English mid-conversation.
The startup highlighted quick onboarding as a sales advantage: Flai says dealerships can go live about 10 days after signing a contract, and the company aims to respond to customers within 20 minutes. Polakof said dealer referrals have driven growth, with new customers comprising roughly half of current revenue.
To support expansion, Flai raised $27 million in a Series A round led by automation-focused Base10 Partners. The round included participation from dealer investors Friedkin Group and Findlay Automotive, Toyota’s venture arm, Y Combinator and First Round Capital. Polakof framed Flai’s defense against broader, generalist AI offerings as the result of deep domain focus and product integration tailored to dealership workflows.
