Majority of voters say Trump’s policies worsened the economy: Poll

A majority of respondents in an NBC News survey reported that President Trump’s policies have weakened the U.S. economy. In the poll, 55 percent said economic conditions have worsened under Trump’s policies, 26 percent said they have improved, 18 percent said his policies have not had much effect, and 1 percent were unsure.

The survey was conducted Sept. 11–15 among 1,000 registered voters and carries a margin of error of plus or minus 3.1 percentage points. The findings arrive as Republican strategists and lawmakers contend with sluggish political standing on economic issues ahead of the November midterm elections.

Voter priorities in the poll put inflation and the cost of living at the top: 28 percent named those as the most important issue facing the country. Other top concerns included government corruption (18 percent), threats to democracy (16 percent), and jobs and the economy (9 percent).

The poll also measured public sentiment about the war in Iran, with 62 percent saying the conflict was not worth it, 33 percent disagreeing, and 5 percent unsure. Separate polling-average data from Decision Desk HQ cited in the coverage placed Trump’s approval rating at about 39.7 percent and disapproval at 58.9 percent, underscoring the broader political context for the poll results.
