Qatar’s Dakar Rally champ Nasser Al-Attiyah wins Asian Games shooting gold

Qatar’s Nasser Al-Attiyah added a men’s skeet team gold at the Asian Games in Nagoya to a year that already included victory at the Dakar Rally. Competing with the Qatari squad, Al-Attiyah and his team finished ahead of Kuwait and India to claim the top podium spot. The win represents Al-Attiyah’s third Asian Games gold, following earlier titles in 2002 and 2010, and brings his overall Asian Games medal count to six. He has also earned Olympic hardware in shooting, taking skeet bronze at the 2012 London Games. Al-Attiyah pairs this shooting success with an extensive record in motorsport: he has won the Dakar Rally six times. His most recent Dakar title, secured this year with Belgian codriver Fabian Lurquin, came while driving a Dacia; during that event he extended his career total of stage victories to 50 and held off a late challenge on the final day to finish first. The combination of a top-level result in both the Asian Games and the Dakar Rally in the same year marks an unusual cross-discipline achievement for a single athlete, highlighting Al-Attiyah’s longevity and versatility across international competition.
