Robinhood Chain Revenue Falls 83% From Its Peak While Trading Volume Sets Records

Robinhood Chain's gas revenue plunged to $943,728 on Sept. 10, an 82.6% drop from a Sept. 4 peak of $5.44 million, according to DefiLlama. The network's transaction counts and decentralized exchange activity remained largely steady or grew even as the average cost per transaction fell sharply.

Why It Matters

The divergence between falling fee revenue and sustained or rising on-chain trading activity shows that cheaper blockspace can preserve user activity while reducing protocol take — a dynamic that affects chain economics, app earnings and fee-sharing arrangements with other networks.

Key Facts

  • gas revenue on Sept. 10: $943,728
  • gas revenue on Sept. 4 (peak): $5.44 million
  • percent decline (Sept. 4 to Sept. 10): 82.6%
  • transactions (Sept. 10): 13.6 million
  • transactions (Sept. 4): 13.98 million

Robinhood Chain's daily gas revenue dropped to $943,728 on Sept. 10, a steep fall from the $5.44 million it collected on Sept. 4, DefiLlama data show. That Sept. 4 figure coincided with the network's highest single-day fee and revenue totals — $6.04 million and $5.44 million respectively — reached during early-September congestion. By contrast, Sept. 10 marked the chain's lowest daily revenue since Aug. 29.

The decline in revenue did not mirror a collapse in activity. Blockscout reports the network processed 13.6 million transactions on Sept. 10 versus 13.98 million on Sept. 4, a modest 3% fall. Using DefiLlama's fee totals gives an average transaction cost of about $0.077 on Sept. 10, down from $0.43 on Sept. 4 and far below $0.009 seen on Aug. 25 before the fee run-up.

The change largely reflects dramatically cheaper blockspace rather than reduced demand. Robinhood Chain's base fee, which moves with congestion, had spiked in early September after a wave of memecoin activity but eased back to low levels; Blockscout showed gas between 0.14 and 0.31 gwei and effectively zero utilization on the most recent Friday cited. Meanwhile, decentralized exchange volume remained strong: $1.87 billion on Sept. 10 versus $1.89 billion on Sept. 4, and seven-day DEX volume through Sept. 10 rose to $12.34 billion, up 26.5% from the prior week and including a $2.06 billion record day on Sept. 8.

Despite the revenue drop, Robinhood Chain stayed the second-largest network by daily revenue on Sept. 10 at $943,728, behind Canton at $1.55 million and ahead of Tron, Base and Ethereum. Over the seven days through Sept. 10 the chain led with $15.15 million in revenue. Applications on the network continued to earn: apps took $2.64 million in revenue on $12.46 million of fees in the 24-hour snapshot that excludes certain categories. Since the mainnet launch on July 1 the chain has accumulated $35.84 million in revenue on $39.88 million of fees. Robinhood the company does not separately report chain gas revenue in its corporate filings; its Q2 results named total net revenues and a separate crypto revenue figure but listed no line item for on-chain gas.
