The Legend of Zelda 40th Anniversary Direct: All the news and trailers

Nintendo opened its Zelda-themed Direct on September 8 with a roughly 30-minute showcase billed as the first of two company broadcasts that week. The presentation focused on a variety of franchise initiatives tied to the series’ 40th anniversary and confirmed several release windows and products across games, hardware and other media. The big gaming headline was the long-teased Ocarina of Time remake, which now has a firm release date of November 5 and will be exclusive to the Switch 2. Producer Eiji Aonuma characterized the project as "a faithful interpretation using modern technologies," and the trailer and footage included gameplay changes such as giving Link an explicit jump mechanic that was not present in the original release. Nintendo also revealed a Zelda-themed Switch 2 bundle due October 29, featuring green Joy‑Cons and Triforce-themed decoration, with a matching special edition Pro Controller and carrying case planned. That hardware launch arrives one week before the Ocarina remake, tying the special console and accessories to the game’s launch window. Beyond hardware and the remake, Nintendo teased additional tie-ins: a new Lego set showing Link riding Epona was briefly shown (pricing and piece count were not announced), a Zelda concert tour will begin in North America in February 2027 with an opening show scheduled for Chicago, and the live-action film — officially titled "The Legend of Zelda" — is slated to reach theaters on April 30, 2027. Nintendo did not show a film trailer during the Direct.
