Moscow said four people died in Ukrainian drone strikes, while Ukrainian authorities reported multiple civilian deaths and over 20 wounded during the same period. Ukraine’s General Staff said Russia launched 863 drones at Ukrainian territory over the previous 24 hours.
Russian officials reported they intercepted hundreds of incoming Ukrainian drones, with the Defence Ministry saying 389 were shot down, including over Tatarstan, other Russian regions and the occupied Crimean Peninsula. Russian state-linked accounts also reported two people killed near the Zaporizhzhia Nuclear Power Plant after drone strikes on fuel trucks, according to the head of Rosatom.
The fighting spilled close to NATO territory: Polish and Ukrainian officials said Russia carried out two drone attacks near the border with Poland. Border guards reported the Dorohusk–Yahodyn crossing briefly halted operations after a truck was struck about 0.8 km from Poland, but the checkpoint later reopened. Officials added that a Russian drone hit a Warsaw-bound train near the Polish border inside Ukraine without causing casualties.
Moscow said its forces struck Ukrainian logistics and energy infrastructure overnight and targeted routes used to move military supplies from Europe through western Ukraine. Alongside the fighting, Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said three-way negotiations between Ukraine, Russia and the United States could be possible in October, according to Russian state agencies. US envoys have recently visited Kyiv and Moscow as part of efforts to jump-start talks; President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has said he would be willing to meet Vladimir Putin at the G20 summit in Miami in December, while previous US-mediated negotiation attempts have failed.
