US voter opposition to war on Iran grows to new highs: Poll

A Fox News survey published Thursday found record opposition among registered U.S. voters to the war on Iran and widespread skepticism that the Trump administration has a plan to end it. According to the poll, 71% of respondents said the administration “lacks a clear strategy” for resolving the hostilities. The survey was conducted in mid-September. The poll also recorded that more than 60% of voters believe taking military action against Iran was the wrong decision. Voters expressed growing worries about the war’s broader effects: 47% said the conflict would make the United States less safe in the long term, up from 39% in April, while just 32% said it would increase national safety. The release of the poll comes as early in-person voting for the November midterm elections begins and as concerns about inflation and higher fuel prices have been linked in public discussions to the conflict. The midterms will determine control of the House and Senate; a Democratic majority could influence the final two years of President Trump’s term. The poll appeared alongside other recent developments in U.S. policy and politics, including approval of an F-35 sale to Saudi Arabia and the issuance of visas for senior Iranian officials to attend the U.N. General Assembly. The White House also withdrew the nomination of Lance Schroyer to lead U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement. Separately, the report notes political maneuvers by President Trump around voting practices and a campaign pledge of a $5,000 payout for each adult U.S. citizen if Republicans retain control of both chambers of Congress.
