West Indies beat India in record chase as Hope hits 162 in third ODI
Shai Hope scored an unbeaten 162 as West Indies completed a record one-day international chase, reaching 352-5 to beat India by five wickets in the third ODI at Chandigarh. India had posted 351-7, led by Lokesh Rahul's 129 not out, but West Indies reached the target with 10 balls remaining.

Why It Matters
The result set a new high for successful run chases in ODI cricket and handed the West Indies their first win over India since 2023, despite India already having secured the series. Hope's promotion to opener and his dominant century were decisive in overturning a substantial total.

Shai Hope guided West Indies to a record successful chase in one-day international cricket, finishing unbeaten on 162 as his side reached 352-5 to beat India by five wickets in the third ODI at Chandigarh. India had earlier posted 351-7, a total anchored by Lokesh Rahul's 129 not out off 87 balls.
Hope was promoted to open after teammate Jewel Andrew suffered a finger injury while fielding and required hospital treatment. After keeping wicket throughout India's innings in humid conditions, Hope produced his second consecutive century of the series, reaching his hundred off 104 balls in what was his 21st ODI hundred and his fifth against India. He struck 17 fours and three sixes and hit the winning run with 10 balls to spare.
Amir Jangoo supported Hope with 67 off 56, and Keemo Paul contributed 44 off 35; the pair added useful late momentum. Sherfane Rutherford made 24 and Gudakesh Motie was 19 not out as West Indies recovered from the loss of Jangoo in the 21st over to build partnerships that kept the chase on track. West Indies’ second-wicket stand of 109 between Hope and Jangoo was especially important against an Indian attack that included the recalled Mohammed Siraj and all-rounder Nitish Reddy, plus debutant pacer Anshul Kamboj, who finished without a wicket.
India had looked well placed after a slow start, with just 28 runs in the first ten overs, before Rohit Sharma (92 off 85) and Rahul revived the innings. Sharma and Ruturaj Gaikwad put on 137 for the third wicket, and after Sharma's dismissal, Gaikwad fell to Jayden Seales, bringing Rahul to the fore. Rahul blasted six sixes and ten fours in his 129 not out, but India were unable to defend the total. India also suffered a slow over-rate penalty late in the match, playing the final four overs with an additional fielder inside the 30-yard circle. The teams now turn to a five-match Twenty20 series beginning Tuesday in Lucknow.
