OpenAI has convened an independent-sounding advisory panel of nine leading mathematicians called the Advisory Group on Mathematics and Artificial Intelligence (AGMAI) after coming under fire for how it previously announced major mathematical claims. Mathematicians contacted by The Verge, including AGMAI member Martin Hairer, say the rollout was rushed and confusing, leaving doubts about the group's independence and its role in coordinating a large batch of unreleased results OpenAI says its internal model produced.
