AMD will buy World Labs, the deep-learning startup founded by Stanford professor Fei-Fei Li, in an $8.2 billion deal, the companies said. As part of the transaction Li will join AMD as executive vice president and chief scientist and the acquisition is expected to close before year-end pending regulatory approval.
