Commonwealth Fusion Systems (CFS), an MIT spinout, signed a record-breaking agreement with a Japanese high-temperature superconductor (HTS) manufacturer to supply specialized HTS tape used in tokamak magnets. The contract is described as the largest of its kind and is intended to help make CFS’s compact tokamak designs more feasible at commercial scale.
