Anthropic says its Bay Area wet lab, which uses its Claude AI model to guide research, has identified a previously unknown enzyme system in bacteriophage DNA that the company says can cut, copy and paste DNA in ways reminiscent of CRISPR. The firm emphasized that human scientists performed all physical experiments in a BSL-1/2 lab and that the AI’s role was computational, though Claude reportedly did most of the discovery work.
