The U.S. Department of Defense has awarded a contract to Overview Energy to design, build, and test a homing beacon intended to enable the companys planned space-based solar power system to accurately transmit energy from orbit to ground receiving arrays. Overview Energy, which also signed a deal earlier this year to provide up to 1 gigawatt of space solar power to Meta, plans a technology demonstration in 2028 and aims to begin deploying a geosynchronous satellite constellation in 2030.
