A report from the International Institute for Democracy and Electoral Assistance (International IDEA) warns that nearly half of the indicators used to measure US democracy have fallen to their lowest levels in five decades, and that the United States is accelerating a global weakening of the rule of law. The study links US democratic erosion to strains on multilateral institutions and to emboldening of authoritarian actors abroad.
