The U.S. Energy Information Administration reported a 3 million-barrel rise in commercial crude oil inventories for the week ending Sept. 18, bringing stockpiles to 426.4 million barrels, about 2% above the five-year average. Gasoline inventories fell by 1.7 million barrels and distillate stocks declined by 400,000 barrels, leaving distillates 12% below their five-year norm.
