Vessev has developed the VS-9, a roughly 30-foot electric hydrofoil ferry that lifts its hull on submerged wing-like foils to reduce drag and produce a smoother ride. The startup, led by co-founder and CEO Eric Laakmann, builds its own electric motor and says the design can extend range and cut operating costs for short-haul passenger routes.
