The United States has invited Russian President Vladimir Putin to the G20 leaders' summit in Miami in December, Secretary of State Marco Rubio said on Sept. 23 after meeting Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov at the U.N. General Assembly. The invitation is part of a U.S. push to explore steps that could reduce fighting in Ukraine, including a proposed limited truce on attacks targeting energy and possibly grain infrastructure.
