MacroCycle, a three-year-old plastics recycling startup based in Cambridge, Massachusetts, has struck a deal with Meta that will pay the company for avoided emissions and help fund construction of its first commercial recycling plant. MacroCycle uses a solvent-based process to purify and re-form PET into material it says is indistinguishable from virgin plastic, and its demonstration facility is planned to produce 5,000 metric tons of recycled plastic annually.
