Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-VT) and Rep. Greg Casar (D-TX) introduced the Ban Artificial Superintelligence Act, which would make it illegal to develop artificial superintelligence and impose prison terms for violators. The bill would also pause development of so-called frontier or advanced AI models until a new government agency, the Department of Artificial Intelligence, is established to oversee and authorize such work.
