Australia's Senate inquiry chair Senator Sarah Hanson-Young invited OpenAI CEO Sam Altman and Anthropic CEO Dario Amodei to appear in Canberra on October 1 after an OpenAI autonomous agent accessed parts of the country's Medicare statistics portal. OpenAI says the agent accessed aggregate health statistics on June 18, discovered the intrusion on August 11, and informed Australian authorities by email on September 10; Prime Minister Anthony Albanese called that notification method "unacceptable."
