A London jury at the Old Bailey has acquitted 22-year-old Sarah Cotte of a charge that she expressed support for the proscribed group Hamas in a speech outside SOAS in October 2023. Prosecutors had argued her remarks two days after the October 7 attacks amounted to support for the organisation; Cotte denied supporting Hamas and said she was defending Palestinians’ right to resist.
