The International Organization for Migration reports a sharp decline in sea arrivals to Europe in 2026, with roughly 60,000 people reaching Europe by boat so far — a 39% drop from about 98,000 during the same period in 2025. Despite fewer crossings, the IOM says at least 2,292 migrants have died or disappeared at sea this year, an increase from 1,999 over the same period last year.
