The American Petroleum Institute estimated U.S. crude oil stocks rose by about 1.019 million barrels for the week ending Sept. 25, a surprise to analysts who had expected a 1.9 million barrel draw. Gasoline inventories increased while distillate supplies continued to fall, and the Strategic Petroleum Reserve (SPR) declined by 800,000 barrels to 283.8 million barrels.
