Block has joined the x402 Foundation and added support for Bitcoin Lightning payments to the x402 open payment protocol, aiming to enable low-cost, high-volume transactions for agentic AI commerce. The x402 Foundation, launched in April under the Linux Foundation, is backed by major cloud and crypto firms including Google, Microsoft, AWS, Coinbase and the Solana Foundation.
