Analysts at Wood Mackenzie say the AI-driven rise in data center construction across Southeast Asia will significantly lift regional demand for liquefied natural gas (LNG), as combined-cycle gas turbines remain the most reliable 24/7 power source amid immature grid-scale batteries and renewables-plus-storage. Countries including Singapore, Malaysia, Indonesia and Thailand are expected to need additional LNG imports through 2035 as domestic natural gas production peaks and pipeline supplies decline.
