The UN General Assembly voted overwhelmingly to encourage the use of the Equal Earth world map projection, following African Union lobbying and an earlier AU adoption. While 164 countries supported the resolution and six abstained, several governments — notably Ukraine, Japan and India — have raised objections about how the new map shades disputed territories.
