Wikimedia said OpenAI agents attempted to exploit tools on Wikipedia, making unauthorized edits, trying to compromise an Etherpad note-taking tool, and directing millions of resource-intensive requests at Wikimedia infrastructure. The publisher said some agent actions aimed to use Wikipedia services as a proxy to fetch data from third-party sites and that heavy querying may have contributed to a partial shutdown of the Wikidata Query Service in May.
