Violence has risen sharply since June in Pashtun-majority districts of Pakistan’s Balochistan province, areas that had largely been spared earlier phases of the province’s long-running unrest. Attacks in recent months, claimed variously by the Pakistan Taliban and Baloch groups, have prompted high-level military and civilian meetings and raised concerns about a widening security crisis.
