Jamaica has petitioned King Charles III to seek legal advice on whether the UK has obligations to pay slavery reparations, while Britain's government has once again rejected the prospect of financial compensation. The Jamaican delegation is requesting $10 billion in reparations and asking the Judicial Committee of the Privy Council to consider whether slavery was legal under English law and whether the UK bears legal responsibility for historical harms.
