Panama Canal may cut ship traffic further as El Niño strengthens

The Panama Canal may impose additional restrictions on vessel traffic if drought conditions intensify due to strengthening El Niño weather patterns, according to the canal's new administrator. Already reduced from 36 to 34 daily transits in September and scheduled to drop to 32 ships by mid-September, further cuts could limit passage to 29 vessels if rainfall remains insufficient through the critical months ahead.
