AMD said it will acquire World Labs, a startup developing 'world models' for AI, in a deal valued at $8.2 billion that is expected to close by the end of the year pending regulatory approval. World Labs, founded in 2024 by Fei-Fei Li and colleagues with $230 million in initial funding (including investment from AMD), builds models that learn predictive simulations of physical environments from large video datasets.
