The United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) says the world is now likely to exceed the Paris Agreement goal of limiting warming to 1.5°C above pre‑industrial levels within the next few years. UNEP’s report projects that even if current climate pledges are fully implemented global temperatures would still rise to at least 1.8°C, and lays out an "overshoot, peak, decline" pathway to bring temperatures back down by century’s end.
