New York's lawsuit alleges TikTok ran experiments in which teens and children who activated a safety tool called "Algo Refresh" were given a nonfunctional, placebo version, leaving their recommendation feeds unchanged. The complaint is part of more than two dozen state-led cases accusing the company of designing its platform to foster addictive use by minors and of misleading users about safety protections.
