Anthropic CEO Dario Amodei is scheduled to meet with President Trump for a private dinner at the White House on Sunday evening, two sources told The Hill. The meeting follows Amodei’s recent public warnings about the risks posed by rapid advances in artificial intelligence and his call for a slowdown in model capability development. Amodei wrote in an essay earlier this month that developers should slow the pace of capability improvements to buy time for safer uses of AI, comments that followed a high-profile resignation by one of his researchers who said AI could pose existential risks. Amodei and his company, known for the Claude chatbot, have been among industry figures urging caution. The meeting contrasts with the guest list at a recent state dinner for Chinese President Xi Jinping, where a number of tech leaders attended; Amodei was not among that group. Axios was first to report the scheduled White House dinner before The Hill confirmed the meeting. The visit comes as Anthropic has been engaged in a legal dispute with the Department of Defense over a designation labeling the company a supply-chain or national-security risk. The U.S. Court of Appeals for the District of Columbia Circuit issued a 2-1 ruling allowing the Pentagon to maintain its designation, a development Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth publicly affirmed on social media.
