Elon Musk's X brings crypto and stock trading via Coinbase, Kraken and Interactive Brokers partnership
X has added a feature letting U.S. users tap cashtags like $BTC or $TSLA to view real-time charts and start trades. When users hit the Trade button, they are routed to partner platforms — including Interactive Brokers, Moomoo, Gemini, Kraken and Coinbase — to complete transactions.

Why It Matters
The change tightens the link between market conversations on X and execution venues, advancing the platform's push to become a broader financial hub while keeping actual brokerage activity on partner exchanges.
Key Facts
- Feature availability: Live for U.S. users
- What users can do: Tap cashtags to see real-time charts and related posts, then press a Trade button
- Partner platforms: Interactive Brokers, Moomoo, Gemini, Kraken, Coinbase
- Where transactions occur: On partner exchanges — X does not act as a broker
- Company quote: “Cashtags close the gap between a ticker on the timeline and the market itself,” — Mridul Singhai, X’s product engineering lead
X has introduced a trading shortcut that lets U.S.-based users move from market discussion to order entry with fewer steps. Tapping a cashtag such as $BTC or $TSLA now brings up live price charts and related timeline posts, alongside a Trade button that begins the transaction flow. Rather than executing trades itself, X directs users to one of its partner brokers or exchanges to log in or sign up and finish the order.
The partners named by X include Interactive Brokers, Moomoo, Gemini, Kraken and Coinbase. X emphasized that it is providing a faster path from conversation to markets but is not functioning as a broker; the actual buying and selling are handled by the partner platforms. Cashtags have existed on X for years, and earlier this year the company added real-time prices and charts before rolling out the direct-trade link.
X positions the feature as part of a broader strategy to make the platform a more integrated financial destination. Mridul Singhai, X’s product engineering lead, summarized the intent by saying cashtags "close the gap between a ticker on the timeline and the market itself." The company highlights its large user base as a reason the feature could be consequential: active daily engagement is reported at about 132 million via mobile devices and over 245 million globally across all devices.
Observers note X’s central role in crypto conversations, where posts from prominent figures can move liquidity across exchanges; the new Trade button could strengthen the platform’s ability to connect public market chatter with execution venues. X contrasted this open-timeline model with messaging platforms like Discord and Telegram, where discussions are often distributed across private channels, suggesting the feature could further differentiate X as a public forum tied more directly to trading services.
