Palmer and Alexander-Arnold recalled after England World Cup snub

Thomas Tuchel has brought Cole Palmer and Trent Alexander-Arnold back into England's senior squad for the upcoming Nations League fixtures, reversing their omission from his World Cup selection. Both players were among several notable absentees from the World Cup squad and now return as Tuchel prepares for competitive matches this international window.

The manager has again left out Phil Foden, as well as Harry Maguire and Luke Shaw, who were also excluded from the World Cup. Alongside Palmer and Alexander-Arnold, the squad features new names such as 18-year-old Liverpool forward Rio Ngumoha and Bournemouth midfielder Alex Scott, highlighting Tuchel's willingness to add young options to the group.

England are set to face world champions Spain, Croatia and two matches against the Czech Republic during the first international period of the season. Tuchel's squad includes a mix of experienced internationals — such as captain Harry Kane and Jude Bellingham — and several players who are building their international careers.

Tuchel's management drew criticism after England's World Cup semi-final loss to Argentina, when the team led 1-0 until late in the match before conceding twice. England finished third at the World Cup, their best placing since winning the tournament in 1966.

The full 26-player squad lists Jordan Pickford, Jason Steele and James Trafford as goalkeepers; a defensive group that includes Trent Alexander-Arnold, Jarrad Branthwaite and others; midfielders such as Jude Bellingham, Declan Rice and Cole Palmer; and forwards led by Harry Kane alongside Marcus Rashford, Bukayo Saka and several younger attackers.
