Visa has told payment processors to stop allowing meme coin purchases made with Visa credit cards to be routed under a merchant category code for digital media, closing a Crossmint-powered workaround that let such transactions earn ordinary card rewards. Processors have been given a short grace period, expected to end next week, after which meme coin purchases must be coded and processed as crypto transactions subject to Visa's rules.
