Meta now lets AI agents handle the boring parts of WhatsApp Business setup

Meta has introduced a new MCP (Model Context Protocol) server called WhatsApp Business Tools MCP that connects AI coding agents directly to the WhatsApp Business Platform. Rather than requiring developers to hop between the Developer Console, Meta’s Business Manager, API reference, and code editor to set up messaging, the update allows teams to instruct a chosen AI agent through chat to perform those steps. The AI agents named by Meta — including Claude, Cursor, Codex, and ChatGPT — can handle much of the repetitive work involved in onboarding. That includes creating a company's WhatsApp Business account, adding and verifying a phone number, registering the business for Cloud API access, and reviewing Terms of Service compliance. Businesses can also task the agent with composing or editing messaging templates and with testing messages and webhooks. Meta noted that its existing Meta Social Technologies MCP server can be used in tandem during setup to locate API endpoints, search documentation, and help debug errors. The company framed the new MCP as an extension of its prior MCP lineup, which already covered advertising and app configuration tasks. The WhatsApp Business Tools MCP places Meta alongside several other technology companies that provide MCP servers so AI agents can securely interact with their services. Examples cited include PayPal, Stripe, GitHub, Notion, Slack, Salesforce, Atlassian, X, Google, and Microsoft, indicating a broader industry trend of exposing developer workflows to agent-driven automation.
