Ripple adds XRP payments to Stripe and Tempo’s AI standard in new developer kit

Ripple has rolled out version 1.1 of its XRP Ledger AI Starter Kit, adding support for the Machine Payments Protocol (MPP) and the Open Wallet Standard, the company said in a developer post. MPP, authored by payments firm Stripe and blockchain Tempo, defines how AI agents can pay services as they consume data or compute: the service returns a price, the agent authorizes payment, and the provider delivers the resource. The beta software supports both one-off payments and ongoing XRP payment sessions, and it already accepts ledger-issued tokens such as RLUSD for individual transactions. However, the session-based feature currently requires XRP; extending session channels to stablecoins would rely on a proposed upgrade to the XRP Ledger. RippleX head of product Jazzi Cooper framed the update as part of making XRP and RLUSD available wherever developers build. The Open Wallet Standard integration enables agents to request transactions without exposing private keys and enforces safeguards including spending limits and approved destinations. Ripple previously added support for the x402 web-payments standard in June and said it is backing both x402 and MPP rather than choosing between them, giving developers multiple ways to accept payments on the XRP Ledger. Ripple’s announcement notes the payment software remains in beta and does not name any commercial customers using the MPP integration or provide payment-volume figures. The company positions the update as a path for applications that adopt Stripe and Tempo’s open protocol to offer XRP or RLUSD payments when choosing the XRP Ledger as their settlement layer.
