Strategy buys 1,665 Bitcoin for $143M as BTC stack hits 847,666
Strategy purchased 1,665 Bitcoin for $142.7 million last week, raising its total holdings to 847,666 BTC, the company disclosed in a Sept. 28 SEC filing. The purchase was funded by proceeds from a sale of 1.47 million Strategy common shares and accompanied repurchases of the company's STRC preferred stock.

Why It Matters
The move continues Strategy’s long-running program of buying Bitcoin using equity sales and internal cash, and it reduces the company’s available USD cash while boosting its Bitcoin exposure — key metrics investors track for firms with significant crypto allocations.

- Amount spent on this purchase: $142.7 million
- Average price paid per BTC (this purchase): $85,681

Strategy said in a Sept. 28 filing that it acquired 1,665 Bitcoin between Monday and Sunday at an average price of $85,681 per coin, spending $142.7 million. The transaction increased the company’s aggregate Bitcoin position to 847,666 BTC.
The funding for the purchase came from the sale of 1.47 million Strategy common shares, which generated $246.2 million in net proceeds. Of that amount, the company allocated $142.7 million to the Bitcoin purchase and $103.5 million to repurchases of its STRC preferred stock.
Separately, Strategy repurchased 1.53 million STRC preferred shares for $151.7 million, with an additional $48.1 million drawn from its USD cash balance to complete preferred-stock repurchases. The filing also noted that the company bought 950 BTC for $75.7 million the prior week, following a two-week pause in purchases.
Following these actions, Strategy’s “USD Cash” balance decreased to $1.00 billion from $1.05 billion week over week after using $48.1 million for STRC repurchases. A separate U.S. dollar reserve held for preferred stock dividends and debt interest declined to $5.02 billion from $5.04 billion after the company paid $22.1 million in dividends.
