The United Arab Emirates has indicated plans to channel an additional $25 billion of investment into India, including projects in the energy sector, Indian Commerce and Industry Minister Piyush Goyal said at a high-level investment task force meeting in Mumbai. That commitment would roughly double current Emirati capital flows to India, which Goyal said stand at about $25 billion today. The announcement was made at the 14th Meeting of the India-UAE High Level Joint Task Force on Investments, co-chaired by Sheikh Hamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, managing director of the Abu Dhabi Investment Authority. The meeting included participation from Emirati officials such as Thani bin Al Zeyoudi, the UAE minister of foreign trade, and focused on expanding cooperation across energy, infrastructure, logistics, advanced technology and food security. Goyal said discussions also covered steps to accelerate the bilateral economic partnership and to make fuller use of the Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement (CEPA), the trade and investment framework the two countries signed four years ago. Since CEPA’s implementation, bilateral trade has risen to $100 billion, and India and the UAE have set a new target to double that figure to $200 billion by 2032. The investment pledge comes against a backdrop of growing strategic energy ties: earlier this year India signed a deal to import liquefied petroleum gas from the UAE and agreed a memorandum on strategic petroleum reserves amid regional supply pressures. According to Goyal, the latest commitments are intended to strengthen resilient supply chains and broaden cooperation in priority sectors as the two countries deepen economic and strategic links.
