YouTube Music gets more conversational with new AI features

YouTube is expanding AI features within YouTube Music with two tools intended to simplify discovery across its large audio catalog. Ask Music is a conversational interface built into the app that lets users type requests in everyday language instead of searching for specific songs or artists. The tool can access more than 300 million tracks on the platform, including official recordings, remixes, live performances, covers, and DJ sets, and can be used to assemble custom listening queues or to surface background details about a song's creation.

The company shows Ask Music being used for tasks such as generating a mix based on the tracks that influenced a particular song or answering production-related questions like who played bass on a given recording. The design emphasizes a friend-like interaction model: users make a natural-language request and the feature returns relevant music or contextual information from the catalog.

Complementing Ask Music, Your Podcast Lineup is an AI-generated, personalized audio guide aimed at podcast discovery. It appears on the podcast page in the YouTube Music app and delivers a short spoken preview each week that explains why a recommended show may suit the listener, then offers suggested episodes to play. The feature targets the challenge listeners face in keeping up with and finding new podcasts amid a large and growing selection.

YouTube framed these updates as part of a wider push to integrate AI across its services; the company previously tested AI-powered music hosts that provided stories, trivia, and commentary tied to users' listening. TechCrunch notes the additions follow similar moves by other platforms—Spotify, for example, introduced an AI-driven personal podcasts feature that creates episodes based on user interests. According to YouTube, both Ask Music and Your Podcast Lineup will be made available soon to YouTube Music and YouTube Premium subscribers worldwide.
